Question 1:
Hi Steve
In writing books I've read, some writers advocate the use of a
blow-by-blow synopsis before they even begin writing. Others
let their imaginations run riot and just record what happens
with little or no idea of where they're going to end up.
What's your view on this and does your course cover it?
Cheers

Answer:
Hi Mark!
James Clavell said that when he wrote "Shogun" he simply sat down at the
typewriter, began to write and didn't stop until the book was finished. He had no
idea of where the book was headed when he began.
And if it works for him that's great. I can't tell you how many writers have
tried this technique, thinking it the easier path to success, and have found that
they get about two pages into the bookandthen have no where to go.
I STRONGLY suggest you have a precise idea of what happens on every page of your
book, fiction or non fiction, before you begin. Then the writing becomes VERY
easy.
And, yes, my manual goes into quite a bit of detail about that.
Question 2: Is self publishing advisable if one can afford it?
Answer: It really depends on what you want to achieve. As I'm fond of telling
everyone, publish with a traditional publisher if you want widespread
distribution and the celebrity that goes with with.
But if you're trying to maximize your own profits, then self-publishing is the
route to go. You'll receive more money per book that way.
Regardless of what you choose, realize that there is no longer the negative
connotations that once went with self-publishing. If it every really existed, it
was only among the literary elite. I have yet to hear anyone make a buying
decision based on who the book's publisher is.
"Simon and Shuster, oh yes, I buy all their books. I just can't wait for the
next one to come out." Hope that helps.
